Onze reisplannen in Panama

Terwijl ik dit zit te schrijven, duurt het nog maar ruim 3 weken voor we in Panama zijn 
. Een reis die we al vaker gepland hadden, maar die we door omstandigheden nog niet gemaakt hebben. En nu is het dus eindelijk zo ver! 4 weken lang avontuur. Genieten van zon, zee, strand, jungle en vooral heel veel nieuws. Nieuwe plekken, nieuwe mensen, nieuwe belevenissen. We kijken er allebei echt enorm naar uit! In dit artikel neem ik je al vast mee in de reisroute en eerste -plannen die we voor Panama hebben.
Vliegtickets naar Panama
Begin december hebben we onze tickets naar Panama geboekt. Omdat Panama Stad een soort hub is vanuit Europa en de VS voor reizen naar Midden- en Zuid-Amerika, zijn er aardig wat opties om betaalbaar een retour ticket te boeken. Wij kwamen uiteindelijk uit bij twee opties: een ticket voor rond €650 per persoon (retour), waarbij we met United Airlines zouden vliegen, inclusief tussenstop in New York of Houston. De andere optie was een rechtstreekse vlucht Amsterdam – Panama Stad met KLM voor €800 per persoon (retour). We hebben voor het laatste gekozen en daarmee zijn we in ruim 11 uur in Panama.
Vervoer in Panama
We hebben heel even overwogen om een auto te huren. Dat maakt je wat flexibeler en het reist iets comfortabeler. Het avontuur en de wens om veel in contact te zijn met locals, heeft ons echter doen besluiten om toch met het openbaar vervoer te gaan reizen. Ook omdat we ruim de tijd hebben voelt dit voor ons als de fijnste keuze. Een auto huren in Panama is echter nog steeds een goede optie en ook best betaalbaar. Je huurt namelijk al een auto vanaf rond $35 per dag.
Reisroute
En dan onze reisroute! Naast de vliegtickets hebben we niets geboekt en dat houden we ook zo. Zo zijn we volledig vrij om ergens langer/korter te blijven of bijvoorbeeld ergens linksaf te gaan, omdat we daar toevallig onderweg een leuke tip in krijgen. Heerlijk vind ik die flexibiliteit en dat vrije gevoel! Dat betekent echter niet, dat we niet al hebben nagedacht over een globale reisroute. Die er namelijk zeker . De reis zal uit de volgende delen bestaan:
- Panama Stad bij aankomst. Hier zullen we niet langer dan 2 nachten verblijven. We zijn allebei niet zulke stadsmensen en we willen graag zo snel mogelijk de natuur in.
- Vanuit Panama Stad reizen we, waarschijnlijk over 2 dagen verdeeld, naar Santa Catalina; een klein surferparadijs, gelegen aan de Pacifische kust. Hier zullen we zeker een aantal dagen verblijven, omdat we lekker willen surfen, snorkelen, varen én een tour willen doen naar het eiland Coiba.
- Vanuit Santa Catalina is het idee dat we het binnenland van Panama in gaan. De jungle in. Sowieso zullen we als eerste uitvalsbasis Boquete kiezen, maar hoe dit deel van de reis er verder uit komt te zien weten we nog niet. In elk geval lekker veel hiken, dieren spotten en in een hangmat genieten van de jungle geluiden!
- Daarna reizen we verder naar de Caribische kust en gaan we eilandhoppen bij Bocas del Toro. Dit is een práchtige eilandengroep, die bestaat uit een aantal verschillende heel verschillende eilandjes. Sommigen hebben een weelderig binnenland vol natuur en wildlife, andere eilanden zijn vooral een tropisch paradijs. Dit gaat hoe dan ook fantastisch worden!
- Vanaf Bocas del Toro vliegen we terug naar Panama Stad en gaan we kiezen waar we qua tijd zitten.
Wat ik vooral zo fijn vind, naast dat we op de bonnefooi reizen, is dat we meer dan genoeg tijd pakken. Vroeger had ik vaak een enorm hoog tempo in het reizen, waardoor ik eerlijk gezegd ook niet altijd van een bestemming ín dat moment genoot. Nu voelt dat heel anders en is dat voor mij juist heel belangrijk. Daarom dus niet veel plannen en in alle ontspanning reizen. Heerlijk!
